Reggie Savage was a first round selection in 1988 by the Washington Capitals at 15th overall. He sadly passed away after a battle with cancer.

Reggie Savage's career spanned a long time and many leagues

So sad to hear that Reggie Savage passed away at age 53 after battling cancer. Reggie was a good friend during our two seasons together with the Baltimore Skipjacks. He scored his first NHL goal on a penalty shot & his jersey is on display at the @HockeyHallFame in Toronto. RIP

Reggie Savage played in nine games once he began his career in the QMJHL. He was drafted in the first round and really made the selection easy scoring 329 points in 185 games.

In the four seasons between 1990-91 and 1993-94 Savage could never get a grip on an NHL roster spot and played 34 NHL games between the Capitals and the Nordiques. He only scored 12 points in his NHL career, but he is also one of only five NHL players to score his first career goal on a penalty shot.

Savage was a force in the AHL around that time, with 220 points in 212 games, so it is pretty crazy how he could not secure a long-term NHL role. After he did not make the NHL he played a bit more in the AHL before playing in the IHL and going overseas to Italy and Switzerland. He then played a bit more in the AHL and UHL, before playing his final season in 2004-05 with 17 games in the ECHL.
