A former NHL enforcer has levied some major accusations against NHL insiders relating to the Corey Perry situation.
Former NHL Enforcer Claims To Know What Happened In Perry Scandal
Today former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque took time out of his day to discuss the Corey Perry situation on The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro. Laraque claimed to know exactly what happened with Perry and echoed many of the comments we have heard from others.
I know what happened Tony, I got, so, now I'm going to be very careful because I don't want to get sued and this is a privacy matter. Okay, but I know exactly what happened inside the organization. It had nothing to do with Bedard and his mom, it had nothing to do with that.
That's the one thing I can confirm to you. The only thing I can say is that I understand why the Blackhawks had to do this, and what I can tell you, is that any team in the NHL would have done the same.
Laraque also alluded to the idea that NHL insiders know more than they are giving to fans. He says they are keeping quiet for a very specific reason for the time being.
Laraque Reveals Why NHL Insiders Are Keeping Information To Themselves
According to Laraque the insiders who have more knowledge are just following a process. He says much like himself they do not want to be sued. Coming out with the information first could leave these insiders liable for a defamation suit.
The reason why I can't say what it is, is because if I mention it I need someone to support what I say. Because if someone doesn't I could get sued for defamation. A lot of media, a lot of insiders know exactly what happened, they are not going to say anything because there is a process to this, and if they do say something they can get sued.
I know what happened, I understand why they made that move. Any team would have made that move, but I can't say anything.
Georges Laraque: No NHL team would've kept Corey Perry
With this in mind, we likely will not get these updates unless the team, Perry himself, or the NHL provide more information. It does confirm that whatever Perry did is excessive coming from a source who spent several years in the NHL.
