Steven Stamkos has been synonymous with the Tampa Bay Lightning since he was drafted back in 2008, but now, he could finally be on his way out.

A Lightning legend on the way out?

In 1,003 games with the franchise, Stamkos has been a fantastic player and a leader on and off the ice, tallying 515 goals and 1,056 points over that time, while being the teams long-term captain.

He's had plenty of success in that role too, as he has led them to three Stanley Cup Finals appearances for two Championships, with many expecting him to retire as a member of the organization.

A major bombshell

However, rumours have circulated as of late that he could be on the way out, with his contract expiring after the 2023-24 season, and now, Elliotte Friedman has dropped a major bombshell.

I know people who are around Stamkos, and I am talking other players, few of them told me that there is this underlying belief around them that Tampa wouldn't be crushed if he left.

The NHL's premiere insider didn't expand on this statement too much, but this comes as a massive shock given how valuable he's been to this team, so now, we will all keep an eye on this story, as a blockbuster move could be happening soon.
