Ever since the tragic passing of Adam Johnson, we've seen more and more players around the league beginning to adopt the new neck protection, and now, another future Hall of Famer is on board.
NHLers Embrace Higher Safety Standards: Neck Protection Becomes The New Norm
From Erik Karlsson to Rasmus Dahlin and Claude Giroux, many big names are getting on board, and now, the Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar has joined the mix.
«It's adding another layer of protection and if I can do that without being uncomfortable, I'll gladly do it.»
Anze Kopitar wore a neck guard at today's practice, said there's a good chance he'll wear it in Vegas on Wednesday.
When asked about it, Kopitar brought up a point that many have said, with the comfortability of the neck guards, but given that most have had no complaints, it's likely that the veteran can settle in with the new proection.
A Movement That Has Taken The Hockey Community By Storm
Even a full week after the tragic incident, the NHL and the NHLPA are yet to come to an official mandate on the neck guards, and they may not do that overall, but for now, players are being encouraged to wear them and they have done so.
Sure, there's going to be plenty of veterans that won't want too given that they've not worn them their whole lives, but with the increased protection it makes sense, and it appears that most will ultimately end up wearing them.
