Slap Shot Legend Hospitalized
Carlson played the similarly named Steve Hanson, who was loosely based on Carlson's experience playing for the WHA. Carlson started as one of the three Hanson Brothers, alongside actors Paul Newman & Michael Ontkean.
Carlson was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat Cancer in 2021, but beat it in 2022. Carlson continued to play in the WHA after appearing in 'Slap Shot', having played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Carlson later played alongside NHL Legends Gordie Howe in New England and Wayne Gretzky in Indianapolis. Carlson retired in 1987, having played mostly in the AHL after the dissolution of the WHA.
A recent update from his Twitter confirmed that Carlson is awake and alert, and is in stable condition.
Carlson's family has asked for prayers.
