The Winnipeg Jets' offseason is expected to be a busy one to say the least. After a hugely disappointing season, several of the team's biggest stars are rumoured to be on the move. One such player is Mark Scheifele, one of the Jets' offensive centrepieces - and the Carolina Hurricanes could be one of the teams to pounce.
Citing Sportsnet as a source, PuckEmpire of Instagram says the Hurricanes could be interested in acquiring Scheifele should he hit the trade market.
The trade would make sense for the Canes, as Scheifele gives them a legitimate second-line centre behind Sebastian Aho, and would further bolster an already stacked group of offensive talent. Following yet another Eastern Conference Finals sweep, the Hurricanes have to swing big this offseason to get over that hump.
Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun recently discussed a theoretical Jets-Canes trade involving Scheifele, with one (or more) of Martin Necas, Brett Pesce, or Winnipeg native Seth Jarvis coming in return. It may make more sense to trade Scheifele for young assets if the Jets are headed into rebuild mode - but either way, this'll be quite the rollercoaster offseason for fans in Winnipeg.
