In a preseason game between the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens last night, 21-year-old Emil Heineman laid out Zack MacEwen and sent him to the locker room.
It was later announced by the Senators that MacEwen would not be returning to the game.
It seems like the injury did not come from the initial Heineman hit on MacEwen but rather the awkward collision MacEwen had with the boards following the hit.
Heineman was originally the 41st overall pick in the 2021 draft by the Florida Panthers but was traded to Montreal. He played mainly in Sweden and in the AHL last season and will be looking to either make a lasting impression in the AHL this year or make the opening night lineup for Montreal.
MacEwen on the other hand was undrafted and has worked his way to the NHL as an enforcer. The 27-year-old has played in 186 career games registering 245 PIMs along the way. He signed a three-year deal with the Senators this offseason as a fourth-line enforcer.
