Well Maple Leafs fans, this is not what you want to see this close to the playoffs. But we have two good pieces of news and one bad for you today.
Good news is Matthews was on the ice this morning for practice, and looks like he is doing well.
Second piece of good news is that even without Matthews in the lineup, the Leafs have a winning record this season and they are not playing against a playoff opponent this evening, that team being the Philadelphia Flyers.
Bad news is, the Maple Leafs will be without Matthews for a second consecutive game.
Coach Sheldon Keefe had some positive comments regarding Matthews though, which should cheer up Leaf fans:
«Maybe he could play through that (the injury) but it doesn't make sense for it to happen, Weve got team accomplishments, individual accomplishments, we're mindful of them and they are important in their own way, But the ultimate goal is for us to be ready to compete come playoff time.»
So if it really came down to it, the undisclosed injury Matthews is dealing with, is not enough that would keep him from playing in a playoff game. So not to worry Leafs fans, he will be available for game 1 of the playoffs.
