A top insider has confirmed that the Edmonton Oilers will probably be trading away a top future asset to bolster their offense.

Oilers' Massive Hole

The Edmonton Oilers are looking to win a Stanley Cup. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Oilers have one of the best if not the best roster in the NHL. However, they have a hole that they will need to fill to curate the perfect team.

Currently, the Oilers only have three right-handed defensemen: Evan Bouchard, Cody Ceci, and Vincent Desharnais. Bouchard and Ceci make for a great 1-2 punch but Desharnais is a tier below the two.

This leaves a massive hole on their right side and a hole other teams could exploit come playoff time. While Brett Kulak and Matias Ekholm can both play on their off-hands, it is better utilized to have them on the left side.

Oilers To Trade Top Asset

Recently, Bob Stauffer confirmed that there is an incredibly high chance that the Oilers trade their 2024 1st round pick for some help on the right side.

"Keep an eye on the Oilers right side. That might give us a little bit of an indication as to what the team may or may not need..if they end up moving that 1st rd pick."

While the 97% line was given by Oilers Alert, it is a solid line to bet on. Considering the Oilers' past couple of seasons and the moves they have made, they have shown that they are willing to trade away a late first-round pick to compete for a cup.

We will now wait and see what Edmonton does and if they choose to add at the trade deadline and bring in a defenseman who can help them out for the foreseeable future.
