According to a new report, Daniel Briere may be preparing to sign a once highly-touted defenseman.
Ethan Bear, who has spent the past few years of his career split between Edmonton, Carolina, and most recently Vancouver, has had a rocky road to where he is now. Despite his very solid two-way game, injuries have prevented him from truly blossoming as a top-four defenseman.
While Bear would likely miss the first stretch of the season as he continues to recover from an injury sustained last season, he would no doubt make an impact upon returning to the Flyers' lineup.
While Bear would without a doubt make the Flyers a better team on defense, there would still be some competition for him to fit into a role as one of their top six defensemen.
Bear would have to beat out at least four of Cam York, Travis Sanheim, Marc Staal, Victor Mete, Emil Andrae, Sean Walker, Rasmus Ristolainen, Helge Grans, and Nick Seeler in order to secure a regular spot on their roster. While younger players such as Andrae and Grans may spend a bit more time in the AHL, the rest of those defensemen will be hard to beat, especially if he hasn't played in a while.
One thing is for sure, Danny B is making big things happen!
