It's no secret that Jonathan Huberdeau and Darryl Sutter had a troubled relationship. It started early in the season and deteriorated throughout.

With Sutter getting the axe earlier today, Huberdeau has now spoken out.

Huberdeau Breaks the Silence

Going from 115 points down to 55 in just one season isn't normal. Playing a 100+ point-scorer on his off-wing for the majority of the season doesn't make sense either.

It's pretty simple - Darryl Sutter wasn't the right coach for Jonathan Huberdeau, and that sentiment was confirmed earlier today.

Huberdeau spoke at an end-of-season press conference and essentially threw Sutter under the bus:

"...It really didn't click between me and Darryl last year. There were a lot of factors. There was a big difference in points between my last two years. And the style of play he wanted to play, it didn't fit my style of game.

Having a new coach is going to help my game and my confidence, too."

He equally addressed the controversy around Jakob Pelletier's NHL Debut, where Sutter crushed the kids' confidence with tasteless comments post-game.

"Why say that to the media and then go see the kid to tell him he played well?"

"We were all disappointed. Especially for a young kid who comes in and doesn't need that as a young player. He just wants to play well for himself and the team. In the media, we were all pretty surprised. We were saying 'That's Darryl'»

Clearly his firing will be a relief for Huberdeau and others in the room.

It can't be discounted what Darryl Sutter did for the Flames, but hopefully this new era brings more promise, and bring the joy back to the Calgary locker room.
