The Calgary Flames have announced a massive change to their coaching staff just now. This announcement comes after a lackluster season in which the Flames failed to make the playoffs despite swinging for the fences in the off-season.
Darryl Sutter Out as Head Coach
The controversial veteran head coach was constantly at odds with his troops this season, and the players didn't shy away from voicing their frustrations with him to the media. Clearly management felt the same way, and today Sutter was officially fired as head coach of the Calgary Flames.
The big downside to this coaching change is that the Flames had already signed Sutter to a two-year contract extension, which was set to start next season. The Flames will still have to pay Sutter his owed salary for those two years, as well as pay his replacement.
Big things are on the horizon for Calgary!
