The Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres have not really been known as heated rivals but tonight that changed, at least for a couple moments as Kris Letang got into an altercation with young forward Peyton Krebs.

Letang Punches Krebs On The Ice

Things got heated tonight between the Penguins and Sabres tonight when a dime a dozen net front scrum turned into a more serious altercation. The altercation lead to Penguins defenseman Kris Letang taking an extra gloved punch against Sabres forward Peyton Krebs when he was already down on the ice. Typically, moves like this are highly frowned upon as they are seen as cowardly by many in the hockey world.

Krebs proceeded to lose his cool after Letang gave him the dirty punch and both players had to be separated from each other as they were directed towards the penalty box.

Hitting a player down on the ice is one of the cardinal sins of hockey. Letang should know that. That being said, this altercation could have been some carry over from the preseason when Crosby fought Krebs following a hit on Letang. Regardless though, Letang knows better. Krebs got the last laugh though as the Sabres went on to win the game 3-2.
