Terrible News Announce About Xhekaj Injury Status
Today the Montreal Canadiens announced that Arber Xhekaj has been placed on Injured Reserve.
The Canadiens have recalled forward Joel Armia from the Laval Rocket. He will meet the team in Los Angeles Friday evening.
The Club has also placed defenseman Arber Xhekaj on IR retroactively to his last game. In a corresponding move, the Canadiens called up veteran Joel Armia. In 8 games during Armia's AHL stint, he put up 9 points. Now the focus will shift to replacing the valuable role of Arber Xhekaj.
Young Defenseman Gets First Crack To Replace Xhekaj
Reports are indicating that 22-year-old defenseman Jayden Struble will be first up to fill Xhekaj's role. In two NHL games this season Struble has been impressive including his first NHL point in a game today against the San Jose Sharks.

Struble will likely bring more of an offensive flair to the lineup but less physicality. Xhekaj's physical presence and style of play will be certainly missed. It will be interesting to see if Struble can take advantage of the huge opportunity created for him.
