Major Development For The Patrick Kane Trade: Insider Shuts Down Major Rumor
One of the bigger stories over the first half of this season has been Patrick Kane and where he will sign. Ultimately, he chose the Red Wings on a one-year deal with the understanding that he would be traded if things fell apart. Now one NHL insider believes a trade is not very likely.
NHL Insider Would Be 'Surprised' If Red Wings Trade Kane
David Pagnotta reported on NHL Network recently that he would be surprised to see the Red Wings trade Patrick Kane.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has shut down rumors/reports that F Patrick Kane would be a rental piece at the trade deadline this season, stating he'd be surprised if he was moved.
Notably, Kane stated that his top priority is to win again. He reportedly even turned down multi-year offers from other teams in order to sign with the Red Wings, who were in a playoff position at the time. Currently, the Wings are not in a playoff position and they are just 4-6 over their last 10 games. Interestingly though, Kane also got a full no-move clause as part of his deal with Detroit, giving him full say in any potential trade that were to happen.
Kane Performing Up To Expectations Since Returning From Injury
Kane famously is coming off hip re-surfacing surgery, a procedure that often ends professional athletes' careers. With Kane already being in his mid-30s, many wondered if he could still be effective in the NHL. So far, he is showing that Showtime still has it.
Kane has 6 goals and 14 points in 15 games since making his season debut with the Red Wings.
Patrick Kane as a Detroit Red Wing: the highlights so far 🎬
Whether or not he will still be with Detroit by the end of the season remains to be seen. One would imagine that a trade is a very real possibility if the team is still outside of the playoffs when the trade deadline comes around.
