At this years past trade deadline, before he was traded to the Wild, it was rumoured that the Edmonton Oilers were in the mix fighting for the services of Fleury, but he turned them down because he didn't consider them enough of a contender to accept a trade.
So it now begs the question, why does a team with 2 of the best players on the planet still not intriguing to other NHL stars? Well, those harsh winter climates are definitely a start. Also since Daryl Katz took over as owner in 2008 the team has not had much playoff or even regular season success. Up until this year the team only had one playoff win which was in 2017. Since he took over in 2008, the Oilers have been a revolving door for head coaches with 11 and General Managers with 5.
Fleury who is a for-sure Hall of Famers when he retires had a mediocre season this year, posting a 28-23-5 record, 2.90 goals against average and a .908 save percentage, which is definitely not Fleury-like, but he did play most of the season with the Chicago Blackhawks who were one of the worst teams in the league this year, finishing 27th.
Fleury wants to try and win one more cup before he retires and the list of possible suitors who need a starting goalie are very slim, and depending on the contract he wants it could be even slimmer.
Could he be a possible fit for the Toronto Maple Leafs or do you see him continuing to play for an American team?
