During today's media availability Connor McDavid, the face of the NHL, shared that he doesn't care what anyone thinks when it comes to the Oilers signing Evander Kane.
McDavid gave the following quote:
I'm not really here to discuss optic issues. You know, if fans don't like it or media don't like it or whatever. I think uhm you know it is what it is. You know I'm sure there's lots of things that go on, on the ice that fans don't like and you know we don't necessarily have to discuss those up here with you guys. You know the public opinion is something that obviously matters a lot. You know, but we're here to try and win games and try to put together a good team in the ice. If Kenny thinks that what he can do then that's what he can do. I think Kenny's got our full support. In what he does."
It has been widely reported that McDavid has been a key driver in the Oilers' efforts to land Kane and it's clear he doesn't care about any of the off ice issues. Connor's priorities at this junction are simply to be competitive. It's an interesting take from the face of the NHL not caring about the type of person a player is, but I guess his concern is more on ice than off.
