The New York Islanders are one of the more interesting teams in the league. They have a whopping nine players under contract long-term, and they have had minimal success.

After two straight conference finals appearances, the Islanders have faded into mediocrity. While GM Lou Lamoriello seems committed to keeping the team together, by handing out forever deals to bottom-of-the-lineup players Pierre Engvall and Scott Mayfield, head coach Lane Lambert may not have the same level of commitment.

Lambert on the Hot Seat?

After being defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs, Lambert never even met with the media. Now four months after their ousting, there hasn't been a peep from the head coach.

He may very well be a scapegoat for the Islanders' lack of success, and Eyes on Islanders has put it very concretely:

Lambert, deserving or not, will be the one the team moves on from if a move is deemed necessary, as he needs to get his team off to a hot start.

After replacing the legendary Barry Trotz, Lambert hasn't lived up to expectations. He could very well find himself as a free agent coach early into the season.

We'll just have to wait and see what the Islanders do - it's safe to say they're unpredictable!
