I guess the old adage that "if a politician's lips are moving they're probably lying," still rings true. Last week Quebec Premier Francois Legault mentioned that he'd had a meeting scheduled with the NHL to discuss the return of a team to Quebec City.
It turns out that election fever may have gotten the best of Legault because the NHL has responded and it's not looking very positive. According to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek while Legault had talked to the league the talks hadn't gone anywhere.
According to NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly the NHL is «pleased with what they have,» but that no meetings are planned about the Nordiques' future.
This is a disappointing bit of news for a city and province that is starved for the return of NHL hockey to Quebec City, but this has definitely displayed the love and passion for another team to exist in La Belle Province.
