The NHL was forced to swallow its pride and change this major rule to accommodate for a mishap that occurred prior to a game in Seattle.

NHL Forced To Change Rule to Accommodate for Mistake in Seattle

A crazy scene occurred last night in Seattle during warmup for the Kraken-Ranger's game, as the lighting in Climate Pledge Arena was not working as intended. This resulted in the Rangers' end of the rink being much dimmer than the Kraken's.

To accommodate for the issue, the NHL decided to change its rules to have each goalie swap ends every 10 minutes instead of at the end of each period.

This was obviously out of the norm for everyone playing in the game and created an ominous look at one end of the rink for the entire night.

Not Everyone Disliked the Dim Lights in Seattle

Not everyone disliked the different lighting, as Artemi Panarin stated after the game he thought that the lack of light helped him score two goals in the match. You can imagine that the goaltenders didn't feel the same.
