Roope Hintz, the top line center for the Stars was streaking towards the net on a backdoor play when Panthers forward Kevin Stenlund attempted to lift his stick. Instead he missed the stick altogether, ultimately hitting Hintz quite hard in the face. Luckily, Hintz did not miss any time in the game as a result of the play.
This is not the first time we've seen NHL referees miss a blatant call. Just recently we saw Jacob Trouba commit a horrific high-stick right in front of a referee and yet there was no call. Many fans called for a suspension on the play but he got a 5 thousand dollar fine instead.
Time and time again both the NHL referees and department of player safety have proven that they have no idea what they are doing. Sometimes it feels like they flip a coin in their head and if it doesn't land on the right side, they just ignore the penalty.
The Stars ultimately lost the game by one goal. They could have scored another one on the man advantage if this penalty was called, but there is nothing they can do about that now.
As seen on NHL refs continue to show just how incompetent they are
