Nazem Kadri has shown over this past season that he is one of the elite players in the NHL. In a contract year he produced at well above a point per game pace and even was a huge contributor in the post-season en route to winning a stanley cup.
For years when he was with the Maple Leafs organization people would criticize Kadri, calling him a playoff liability, but it now seems that it's the Leafs and not Kadri that are the liability.
Kadri is now a pending free agent and his name has been all over the place on where he is going to be signing. With conversations with the Avalanche not progressing too well, it looks like Kadri will be hitting free agency looking for a huge payday.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, 2 Eastern conference teams will most likely he highly in on Kadri in free agency:
I have heard not to count out the New York teams possibly looking at Kadri, the Rangers and the Islanders... They think there's a lot of competition and a lot of unique attempts to get him done.
The one thing I do want to say about the Islanders is Lou Lamoriello is notorious for not calling until 12:01 until Eastern on Wednesday. He is old school, he does not break the rules, and that's why (this source) said to me 'you might have to wait for some clarity if that Islanders are indeed part of this.' Teams do suspect that both the Rangers and the Islanders will talk to Kadri, so we'll see where that goes.
