Patrik Laine sends a message to the Columbus Blue Jackets fanbase in his return after being traded
Patrik Laine is returning to Columbus tonight for the first time since being traded to the Montreal Canadiens and decided to send a message to the fans before the game.
This summer Patrik Laine was traded to the Montreal Canadiens after requesting a trade away from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The move was seen as a disappointing but necessary move by both sides for a fresh start after Laine spent much of last season in the NHL's Player Assistance Program.
After arriving in Montreal Laine suffered an injury that kept him out for a significant portion of the first few months of the season.
Tonight with Laine back in the lineup and playing well the Canadiens will head to his old stomping grounds in Columbus for the first time with Laine in the lineup.
During a press conference after their morning skate, Laine decided to send a message directly to Blue Jackets fans.
His message was simple he is excited to be greeted and interact with fans who welcome him back and for those who won't give him a warm welcome, he does not care.
After these comments, it was time to play the game, and to no one's surprise, the Blue Jackets' crowd decided to send boos and frustration toward Laine after his trade request away from the team.
It seems that Laine expected the boos and anger from fans and was willing to take it all on but it will be interesting to see what he has to say after the game about his treatment and how he felt the night went in his return.
