After the Edmonton Oilers took a chance on Evander Kane last season, it paid off in spades and unfortunately for the Oilers, Kane is looking to profit off his success in Edmonton. Both Kane and the Oilers are far apart in contract negotiations and according to Frank Seravali of Daily Faceoff, the two sides met yesterday and made very little progress. The main part of the separation appears to term as the Oilers want to go short-term and Kane wants a long term deal.
Kane is believed to be looking for a deal worth between $40-50 million which if he gets to free agency he could get a 7-year deal with an AAV between $5.7 - $7.1 million per season. After showing how dominant he can still be he feels like he deserves this contract and to be fair he is right. He scored at almost a point per game in the regular season scoring 22 goals 39 points in 43 games, and following that up with 13 goals and 17 points in 15 playoff games. Whether you like the man or not, he can play hockey and play it well.
Kane also stayed out of trouble this year despite al the accusations sent at him over social media, he stayed focused on the game and played hard. With free agency just days away and the two parties still far apart in contract talks, it looks like Kane will be hitting the open market.
Apparently the Edmonton Oilers offered him a contract around 4 years in term with an AAV of $4,500,000, which is a slap to the face for someone of Kane's skill level.
