No one can say that the 2022 NHL Entry draft was not entertaining this year. It has trades, it had surprises and it was the first one we got to do in person in 2 years, it was a great event.
The first surprise though came when the Montreal Canadiens chose to select Slafkovsky with the first overall pick, passing on Shane Wright who was projected to go first overall for over 3 years now.
This of course became a huge topic for days but not just because he didn't go first, or because he dropped to fourth to the Seattle Kraken, but because of the 'stare' he gave the Montreal Canadiens drafting table.
Sportsnet Central asked Shane Wright about the stare, and he tried to put an end to the rumours, revealing that he did not intend to stare down the Canadiens but instead he said he was looking at the cameras.
Not at all. I was just kind of looking at the cameras in front of me. To be honest, I don't really remember too much going up on stage. It was just kind of a whirlwind for me so. I wasn't intentionally trying to stare anyone down I guess maybe it looked like that from the video, but there was no intent to stare them down. Just kind of look at the camera and their table was right behind it so I guess it kind of looked like it but there's no intent behind that.
The Seattle Kraken play the Montreal Canadiens on December 6th, get ready for Shane Wright's redemption game.
