Zach Werenski sounds off on Patrik Laine after disrespectful quote from the Finnish star
Patrik Laine's time in Columbus did not end pretty and he was brutally honest about it yesterday which led to Zach Werenski sounding off on him.
During his time with the Blue Jackets, Patrik Laine was among the best players on the team. However, in his final year, he underperformed heavily and eventually was traded to Montreal for a fresh start. Laine went on to comment about how his time in Columbus ended which certainly rubbed some the wrong way.
"I was tired of losing and just giving up when it's December to start focusing on next year." - Patrik Laine on the end of his tenure with the Blue Jackets
Rightfully so, Blue Jackets leader and star defenseman Zach Werenski went off on Laine saying that they were nothing but good to him.
"We were nothing but good teammates to him. For him to come in and say that is bullshit. Definitely not happy about it and none of us in this room are happy about it. It speaks more about him than it does us." - Zach Werenski on Patrik Laine's quotes
Eventually though, despite Laine's slander, the Blue Jackets got the last laugh as they defeated the Canadiens 5-4 last night.
Werenski was tied for the lead in points in the game notching three assists en route to victory. While this is impressive, the Blue Jackets also limited a surging Laine to a pointless performance. However, it should be noted that Laine only played for six minutes last night as he was pulled from the game.
Unfortunately, this was the final game between the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets this season meaning that the next time we see the two meet again will be in the 2025-26 season as it is highly unlikely that they will meet in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
