Matt Rempe just received an 8-game suspension and now insider Elliotte Friedman has sent a message to the 22-year-old enforcer telling him to wake up and play cleaner.

After delivering a dangerous hit on Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen, the NHL Department of Player Safety decided to suspend New York Rangers Matt Rempe for eight games. Considering the nature of the play, many thought that this was an appropriate punishment.

Through only 22 games played, Matt Rempe has already been suspended for 12 total games and has been ejected from four of the games he has been in. Clearly, he struggles to play clean.

In the most recent 32 Thoughts podcast from Elliotte Friedman, the famed NHL insider had this to say about Rempe's suspension.

"He deserved the suspension for it and all I can say is I hope he learns his lessons... He's just gotta learn his lessons, and if he doesn't, then, you know, he's gonna keep getting suspended or eventually his NHL dreams will come to an end." - Elliotte Friedman on Matt Rempe's suspension

The end of this quote is the most shocking as it is clear that Friedman is sending a wake-up call to Rempe to clean up his act so he can play in the NHL for a long time.

However, not everybody agreed with Freidman's sentiment as New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks called out the DoPS for being harsher to Rempe.

With Rempe needing to wait till 2025 to return to action, he will have a lot of time to reflect on his play and can hopefully come back with a gameplan that ensures he is not suspended as much.
