Patrick Kane was the big trade deadline get for the New York Rangers at the deadline in 2022-23. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the team was eliminated in seven game to the New Jersey Devils.
Patrick Kane had 12 points in 19 regular season games with New York, and six points in seven playoff games. Kane did all of that while playing through injury that he had to have corrected in the off season.
Reports that Kane will not be going to the Rangers
A report dropped on Instagram later last night that Kane would not return to New York.
The New York Post's Larry Brooks later confirmed the report that the Rangers are not in on Patrick Kane.
According to Larry Brooks the Rangers were never in on Kane.
"Patrick Kane is expected to sign as a free agent by Thanksgiving, but The Post has been told that No. 88 will not be returning for a Broadway encore.
The Rangers, according to well-placed industry sources, have never been in the mix for the right wing who will turn 35 on Sunday and has been skating on his own in Toronto for approximately the last six weeks."
Besides indicating that the Rangers were never in on Kane, Brooks also indicated which teams are meeting with him and his agent next week.
"The Maple Leafs, Panthers, Sabres, Red Wings, Stars and Lightning are believed among the interested parties who will meet with Kane over the next week.
It is unknown whether the winger is seeking a multi-year deal or is alternatively looking for a one-year reset for a modest fee."
Kane's off season surgery and start to the season
Kane has been working out on his own as an unrestricted free agent as he waited to get healthy enough to sign a contract. After the Rangers were eliminated from the playoffs Kane waited until June 1st to have hip resurfacing surgery. He has been out ever since.
Kane has been working out on his own in the Toronto-area since mid-July and is now finally ready to sign a contract.
