Phil Kessel's Future Leaked by Insider
Training camps for the NHL are beginning to ramp up, with many prospect and development camps beginning around the league. As for free agency, most have figured out their plan for the upcoming season. Phil Kessel, on the other hand, hasn't landed a spot on a roster yet.
Kessel's Future
With the season coming up so quickly, many are curious if Kessel and his camp are beginning to waiver in what they are willing to take on. Some have even speculated that Kessel may have to sign a PTO in order to join a camp somewhere. However, On Thursday, TSN's Chris Johnson gave an update on Kessel's negotiation status.
It sounds like there's some percolating interest from NHL teams in signing Phil Kessel to a contract for this season. The veteran forward isn't in PTO territory at this juncture.
Kessel is 35 years old, so a contract for him will likely be in the 1 to 2-year range. Last season he recorded 14 goals and 22 assists in 82 games played and won his third Stanley Cup.
Phil Wants to Play
Recently, Kessel has confirmed that he is willing to give up his active Iron Man streak in order to land a spot on a roster. This should go a long way for a potential team looking to add depth scoring, in which Kessel would be a great option.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Kessel's future plays out, and more than likely one team will get him for a steal as the season opener gets closer.
