Player Gets Fined and Suspended for Ridiculous Reasons
Weird Incident Between Player and Referee Leads To Major Fine and Suspension.
One of the most important things in sports is the safety of everyone who's playing a role in the event.
Whether it's players, coaches, fans, or referees, the safety of everyone involved should be a top priority for leagues.
In a recent SHL game, a player accidentally collided with a linesman. In order to make an example out of him and ensure that no one voluntarily harms a referee, he received a massive fine and a suspension.
Here's what happened:
For this accidental collision, Lundin is suspended for three games and will pay a 10,000 Swedish krona fine (around $900 US).
Lundin Reacts, The SHL Explains
The SHL wanted to explain why they made the decision to be so harsh on Lundin:
"The board finds that Albin Lundin was, in any case, indifferent to the collision with the linesman. It should also be noted that Albin Lundin did not even stop after knocking the referee to the ice or take any other notice of the incident."
Lundin also commented:
"After the whistle blew, I looked up at the jumbotron to see what happened. I know I ran into the referee, but I wanted to see with how much force. After that, I went straight up to the official to apologize and tell him it wasn't on purpose. I apologized several times to the linesman."
"I just tried to move forward when I left the bench; I went straight forward the whole time. You can debate whether I should have seen him, absolutely, but I didn't."
Kimmo Kapanen, Lundin's General Manager, will file an appeal with the League.
We'll keep you in the loop.
