Last season at the NHL trade deadline, newly appointed General Manager Kyle Davidson announced that the Chicago Blackhawks would be entering a rebuild to become a consistent cup contender again.
Patrick Kane and his long-time teammate Jonathan Toews are on the final year of their long-term deal and the Blackhawks are hoping to get something back for them that is going to really jumpstart the rebuild.
A lot of speculation has been made about what the Blackhawks will be searching for in return for these players, but it sounds like it's going to be a huge haul to get Kane out of Chicago.
For years now it's been speculated that the New York Rangers would be heavily in on Patrick Kane due to his chemistry with their star player Artemi Panarin, and well, if the Rangers want him, they are going to be giving up a big piece of their future:
If the Rangers want to get Kane, the asking price is 2019 2nd overall pick Kaapo Kakko or 2020 1st overall pick Alexis Lafreniere.
While there will be more details that go into this trade, these would be the main pieces going back. At this point, neither player has quite worked out in New York, so a fresh start could be good for both.
