A lot of Russian players play in the MHL, VHL and even KHL before coming over to North America to play in the NHL. Some of the best players in the league like Artemni Panarin and Kirill Kaprizov didn't come over to the NHL until they were already 24.
A Russian player who once had a contract with the LA Kings is looking to make an NHL comeback. 27 year old Vladimir Tkachev, who played in the QMJHL, for 3 seasons before heading back to Russia to play in the KHL for a few seasons, signed an NHL contract back in 2021. After one season he went back to Russia to play with Avangard Omsk, where he dominated, scoring 59 points in 64 games.
With the KHL season now over, he was looking to extend his contract with Avangard, but according to a tweet by his agent, they were very unhappy with his contract offer and now are looking for his client to make an NHL return:
We are not satisfied with Avangard Omsk offer on new contract for Vladimir Tkachev. Our goal number one for now is to sign contract in NHL. I started to talk to some NHL clubs already. pic.twitter.com/oq3bavwyg3 Shumi Babaev Agency (@BabayevShumi) April 14, 2023
