When the Habs passed on Shane Wright, they still needed to fill the void of a second line center who could be with the team for a long time, and build with them in the future, so during the draft they traded for the Blackhawks former 3rd overall pick Kirby Dach.
Dach started off at center with the Habs, but has now worked his way onto the top line playing wing with Suzuki and Caufield and has really thrived with these two. So far Dach has 14 points in 15 games and just keeps looking better and better each game.
So with Dach now on the top line, again the Habs are looking for a young center to fill that second line role. While they already have Monahan and Dvorak who can fill the role currently, the Habs don't see either of these guys in their long-term future.
In a recent discussion on BPM Sports, Jean-Charles Lajoie and Tony Marinaro spoke about the Habs looking to acquire a second line center, and they the Habs are going to go to ''great lengths'' to try to trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets.
Dubois is from Quebec, and has already stated he does not intend to sign with Winnipeg long term, so this is the perfect opportunity for the Habs to acquire a local center who would bring a lot of value to their organization. The two-time 60 point scorer is only 24 years old, and brings a great two-way game. If the Habs do acquire him, it would drastically increase the speed of their current rebuild.

Kirby Dach et Johnathan Kovacevic font partie du lot. 👀
