It was announced earlier in the season that the National Hockey League is no longer in the "big 4" for profits, despite bringing in record revenues year after year.

When the NHL announced Vegas as the 2017 Expansion team, they had instant success, going all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season and are now ranked as the 17th most valued NHL franchise with a value of $975 million.

Last year we saw the newest expansion team, the Seattle Kraken, who didn't have the same instant success as the Golden Knights, but one year later, they are one of the top teams in the Western Conference. According to Sportico.com, the Seattle Kraken are currently valued at $890 million and that is just going to continue to grow.

Bringing in these new teams brings in more money for the league and it sounds like we might be seeing a 33rd team added to the NHL a lot sooner than most of us thought:

There are a few area's that are rumoured to be getting the next new NHL franchise, Houston, Quebec City and possibly even another franchise back in Hartford.

Right now the Conferences are even with 16 teams per conference, but if the league wants to continue to grow in revenue, another team will be added soon. Especially if they need to continue to support teams like the Arizona Coyotes.
