The 2016 first overall pick, absolutely ripped up the league last season, scoring 60 goals and 106 points in 73 games. He went home with the Rocket Richard trophy as the leagues leading goal scorer, Hart Memorial Trophy as the leagues most valuable player and the Ted Lindsay award which is given to the NHL's most outstanding player as selected by the members of the NHL Player's Association.
This season he started off a little slow, but is heating up currently. At the time of writing he has 12 goals 27 points in 25 games.
Auston Matthews is one of the best players in the National Hockey League right now and after this season, he only has one year left on his deal, which many speculate he could walk away from the Maple Leafs after it. What we do know though, is that next deal he signs is most likely going to make him the highest paid player in National Hockey League history.
Even though he is currently racking in big bucks, it looks like he is about to get even more as NHL Insider Darren Dreger reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to announce today that Auston Matthews is adding another ''big name'' to his profile of sponsorships:
Maybe it will be a Toronto based business that will only use him if he remains in Toronto? Maple Leafs fans can hope.
