He was the projected first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but slid down 3 spots where the Seattle Kraken selected him with their 4th pick.
The Kraken have played in 11 game so far this season, where Shane Wright has been a healthy scratch for more than half of them. He has only gotten into 5 games where he has averaged less than 7 minutes per game.
This is another development year for the Kraken, despite them making some moves this offseason to bring in players like Andre Burakovsky and Oliver Bjorkstrand, this team is just not ready to be a Playoff contender, despite what some may believe with their 5-4-2 record to start the season.
So if this is not a team that believes they can win the cup yet, why not allow your young players to get some ice time, or atleast into the roster.
Over this past weekend, the Kraken played the Pittsburgh Penguins, which did end up in a 3-1 win for the Kraken, but could have also been a very special moment for Shane Wright.
It has been reported that Shane Wright's grandparents made a trip up to Seattle (we are assuming they are from Burlington like Shane) to see him play, which is a fairly long drive or even flight, but Wright didn't get dressed, so she didn't didn't get to see her grandson play in an NHL game.
Donato in for Kuhlman tonight against the Penguins. No Shane Wright. His grandparents were in town for the week/three-game homestand and won't get to see him play.— Kate Shefte (@KateShefte) October 29, 2022
