For the past few seasons they've been one of the most dominant regular season teams, but when it comes to the playoffs, they choke when it matters most.
They are a team that's been led by their offensive outputs by their ''big 4'' in Matthews, Marner, Tavares & Nylander. But what we've seen by past Stanley Cup teams, is it requires more than just your best players producing to win 4 rounds.
It sounds like the Toronto Maple Leafs who are often criticized for not improving their defence, are looking to bring on another offensive player.
William Nylander is pricing himself out of Toronto on his next contract with his dominant season this year, and Auston Matthews is jut one year away from being a UFA. If this team wants to be able to re-sign Matthews, they will need to start seeing some playoff success.
It sounds like they are looking at bringing in a former 30 goal scorer to provide some scoring depth upfront:
I don't really want to give away my source (close to the team) but I heard some rumblings that Toronto was opening conversations with St Louis about Pavel Buchnevich 👀 Stats Mundin (@StatsMundin) January 28, 2023
Buchnevich is a very good scoring winger and could be a great addition for the Maple Leafs if they could figure out a a way to open up the cap space. With some term left on his contract at an under-value deal, he could be a great help for the Maple Leafs.
