The Edmonton Oilers have mightily struggled to keep the puck out of their own net. A new rumor has suggested that the team has two players in mind to help remedy the situation.
Rumor Indicates Oilers Solution For Poor Goaltending
A rumor that was put out by a source named Eklund has provided a solution for the Oilers' goaltending problem. Although he provides a solution he has heard from a source things won't be easy.
"This is not an easy deal to make. They have been trying actually for over a week now and getting the numbers along with a no-trade of a player, who is NOT the main piece, has proven to be difficult...."
Despite the difficulty of the deal two big names have been mentioned as targets.
I am hearing two big names and both are interesting on differing levels....in Anaheim, Gibson and in St Louis, Binnington, have both been tied to the Oilers..
Both Gibson and Binnington have been linked to the Oilers. Despite a strong link, there is nothing imminent.
Which Goalie Should The Oilers Prioritize
With these two names in mind which one should be the Oilers' preference? \
Gibson is having a resurgence this season with the Ducks. In 12 games he has a 2.43 goals-against average and a 0.921 save percentage. These are his best numbers since 2017-18. The 30-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and could be entering a second peak with his recent play.
Binnington is also having a bounce back of sorts. In 13 appearances he has a 2.79 goals-against average and a 0.912 save percentage. Binnington is also 30 and has similar odds of returning to his peak. Binnington's personality and locker room fit could be a deciding factor. His fiery nature and antics could be what the Oilers need or just another distraction that derails the team.
With both these options the Oilers likely lean Gibson if all things are equal due to the insane peaks he can hit. It will be fascinating to see if they scoop up either player.
