Today the New York Rangers announced several roster moves to get closer to their opening night final roster. One of the most disappointing was former first-round pick Brennan Othmann being sent down to the AHL.
By most accounts, Othmann was having a good camp and making a name for himself within the organization. Unfortunately for him, the progress was not enough to stick with the big club. He will now head to the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack and look to earn an opportunity to make his NHL debut.
With the demotion to the AHL Brennan Othmann will play professional hockey for the first time in North America. Previously he had played in the OHL where he was a standout. He also spent one year in the Swiss League due to Covid where he held his own during his draft year.
Othmann plays a pro-style game predicated on physicality and doing a lot of the smaller detail things well. If he can put up points in the AHL and show his high-end ceiling he could earn an early season call-up. The Hartford Wolfpack just became a lot more of an interesting team to watch this season with Othmann suiting up for them.
