The NHL has a problem on their hands and it's a problem that they've created on their own. It all began when Subban slewfooted Reaves earlier this year.

After this play and the subsequent lack of NHL response Reaves gave this reply.

Many expected fireworks following these comments, but that never came to fruition. Unfortunately PK Subban and Sammy Blais collided in what has been a hotly contested conversation about "slewfoot or Incidental Contact". Well it's been announced that Blais will miss the rest of the season while he recovers from a soon to be scheduled knee surgery.

Well last night Reaves gave this comment which should definitely set off some alarm bells for the league.

"It's a close game. Subban's not going to fight me. What's going to happen? I'm going to go cross check him and take a penalty and they're on the PP? I'd rather try and catch him with his head down in a hit or something like that."

It's clear Reaves and the Rangers are unhappy with Subban, but what will come of it? I'm sure the league hopes nothing, but at this point it seems inevitable that there will be some form of retribution especially since the league has opted to not police this situation. This leaves the players in a position where they feel the need to police themselves which could create a dangerous situation.

So circle March 4th on your calendar because if the Tom Wilson vs. New York Rangers was any indication of what could happen this should be can't miss TV.
