Most teams would welcome a player with quick hands on their roster, but one players in Russia took the meaning too literally and lost his job in the process.
Player caught stealing by team
Bogdan Potekhin was playing forward for Krasnoyarsk Sokol of Russia's VHL when he was allegedly stealing equipment.
On Saturday, Sokol announced that they had terminated the 31-year-old's contact after he was caught on surveillance reportedly stealing sticks from the locker room.
"According to the source, the player was identified after the viewing of recordings from video cameras."
Potekhin had played most of his professional career in the KHL, twice winning the Gagarin Cup, before joining Sokol last year.
This season he had 10 goals and 12 assists in 16 games for Sokol, but he did not have to wait long for another opportunity as he stays in the VHL after signing a contract with HK Norilsk on Monday.
