We Now Know Tyler Motte's Shocking Ask
Tyler Motte signed a contract yesterday but his ask at the start of free agency has been revealed and fans are shocked.
Motte Signs With Tampa
Yesterday Tyler Motte finally signed a contract for next year.
Welcome to Tampa, Tyler
We have signed forward Tyler Motte to a one-year contract worth $800,000
Motte was one of the top free agents remaining and as a defensive specialist, Motte proved to be a key penalty killer for whichever team he has played for.
Motte's Massive Ask
After Motte signed his contract with Tampa, it was revealed by NY Post reporter Larry Brooks what Motte was asking for at the start of free agency.
Have been told by multiple sources that Motte's asking price into free agency and much of the summer was $2M per.
Second consecutive offseason this useful fourth-liner misread the market and priced himself out of New York.
$2 million per season is quite a tall ask for Motte. With him receiving 40% of his original ask by Tampa, it is clear that Motte's overvaluing of himself screwed himself out of hundreds of thousands.
If Motte were to have had a more modest ask at the start, say $1.5 million, he would likely have a better contract right now but instead, Motte is receiving below the 7-figure mark.
