The Minnesota Wild lost on Saturday 7-4 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In an interview with Wild head coach Dean Evason he laid into one player specifically after the loss.

Wild Coach Calls Out Veteran Player For Dumb Decision

The Minnesota Wild had a tough game on Saturday losing by 3 the the Maple Leafs. Their head coach Dean Evason believes the momentum swung in the game due to one decision by veteran defenseman Alex Goligoski.

"Momentum was clearly in our direction and then obviously they get a power play. They didn't score, but they gain momentum from it. They had a lot of good touches on it. And then we were behind the eight ball. Can't happen. You can't take (a) stupid really stupid bad penalty and Goose knows it. We addressed it, but it can't happen. Can't happen in Game 2 and it can't happen moving forward."

For clarification, Goligoski was complaining about wanting a penalty call on the Maple Leafs and ended up with an unsportsmanlike penalty himself. This lapse in judgment clearly did not sit well with his coach.

absurd penalty on Goligoski

While Evason's comments were harsh he also had some other comments for the defense who struggled in this one.

Wild Coach Calls On His Defense To Step Up

Whenever a team gives up 7 goals in a game clearly something went wrong defensively. This was absolutely the case for the Minnesota Wild in their game against Toronto. After the game, Evason called for his defensive unit to step up while praising their youngest member.

"Brock Faber can't be our best player every night. It's wonderful that he is, but we really need other people stepping up in Spurgey's (Jared Spurgeon) absence."

The Wild were considered to be a playoff contender heading into the season. If their defense can't get back on track the playoffs will not be a likely destination for the Minnesota Wild by the end of the season.
