Despite major backlash from fans, the Edmonton Oilers went ahead and announced Stan Bowman as their new General Manager, opening up the door to the return of Joel Quenneville.
Whether fans like it or not, it appears to be almost inevitable at this point, and according to The Hockey News, there are four teams to keep an eye on for his services. Those teams would be the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, the brand new Utah Hockey Club, and the Calgary Flames, all of whom seemingly have coaches on the hot seat.
Given the backlash and goodwill that the Oilers gave away by bringing in Stan Bowman, it's unclear if any of these teams would pull the trigger on Quenneville, but his resume speaks for itself and could be a driving factor in his return to the league. With a 45224996 record in the NHL, there are few coaches in the modern NHL that have experienced the success of Quenneville, and with his return looming, keep an eye on the starts of these four teams as they all look to take huge steps forward in 2024/25.
