Former 1st round pick Jordan Schmaltz shares the crazy story of how he was threatened for wearing jeans
Today a new interview with former NHLer Jordan Schmaltz revealed a wild story where he was almost sent to the AHL for wearing ripped jeans.
Throughout the history of the NHL, there have been many interesting stories of players being benched or sent down for the most insane reasons.
Today another one of those stories has surfaced involving former St. Louis Blues first-round pick Jordan Schmaltz.
In a new podcast interview with Schmaltz during his time with the Blues the GM at the time threatened to send him down for wearing ripped jeans on a game day.
Schmaltz says he got a call from his agent asking about wearing ripped jeans and was told that the team was not happy.
Were you wearing ripped jeans the other day on an off day? It was a casual dress day and they had a little slit on them they were all black you could not even see the rip.
Schmaltz then decided to make a comment to the front office trying to make light of the situation and assumed they would go along with things.
I was like fella these are pretty sick and I thought he would take a bit of a joke because we were on a winning streak.
Apparently, that was not the case as Schmaltz's agent was called and told if he did not figure it out he would be sent down.
He didn't take kindly to that he ended up calling my agent and saying if he doesn't change his clothes or his attitude he will be sent down
Things ultimately did not go Schmaltz's way throughout his NHL career as he played just 42 total games and only had 5 points.
In the AHL he didn't fare much better either playing 253 games for the San Antonio Rampage, Toronto Marlies, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Tuscon Roadrunners while having 113 points.
It seems that this incident along with other potential issues like this could have followed Schmaltz throughout his career and now led him to be retired at just 31 years old.
