Humboldt Broncos honored by Stanley Cup winner of the Florida Panthers
Josh Mahura, former Florida Panthers Stanley Cup champion, had his day with the Cup, and he did something truly touching: honoring the Humboldt Broncos.
26-year-old defenseman Josh Mahura was fresh off his first Stanley Cup win and having his name engraved into Lord Stanley, and recently had his turn to have the Stanley Cup for an entire day. He took full advantage of his day, and threw in a few very touching gestures.
"Great day today! It's not every day a Stanley Cup champion shows you his name on the Cup. Congrats and thanks to Josh Mahura for sharing the Cup with so many kids, big and small today, including me and 2/3 of my kids."
Mahura ensured that while he had the Cup in his possession, he would honor the fallen members of the Humboldt Broncos, who tragically lost their lives a few years ago when their team bus suffered a head on crash with a tractor trailer. Mahura brought the Cup to the plaque that honors the fallen players, and he made sure to pose with it there and take some photos. This was truly a very emotional moment for many families of the affected players.
"Honouring the past! @FlaPanthers #stanleycup champion Josh Mahura takes some time from his day to never forget! @nhl #humboldtstrong @HockeyHallFame"
Mahura will now be playing next season with the Seattle Kraken, who are in a re-build, therefore who knows when he will get his chance with the Cup again. One thing's for sure, he took full advantage of it this time around. What a legend!
