Relocation and expansion has been a hot topic in the NHL lately, and with Canada looking for another team, one politician has made an intriguing vow.

Salt Lake City are the latest team to land an NHL team with the relocation of the Arizona Coyotes, but it's incredibly likely that the NHL are looking to expand over the next few years. The success of the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights has been a big part of the NHL in the past few years, and now, they're likely pushing to get the league to 34 or even 36 teams.

Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake City and Quebec City among others are leading candidates, but now, it appears as though there's another city that may push for NHL expansion.

Mississauga get an NHL and PWHL franchise? 🤔💭

Peter McCallion says that Mississauga is no longer the "little brother" of Toronto, and that the city deserves professional sports.

McCallion said he'll bring together members of the business community to draft an NHL bid if he becomes the city's new mayor. He said he also wants the city to have a Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) team.

In terms of a possible NHL team name, McCallion seemed to suggest «Mississauga Hurricanes» a tribute to his mother, who was often referred to as «Hurricane Hazel.»

Mississauga's population stands at approximately 830,000 people.

Obviously, there's plenty of factors that go into this, with the main one being that Peter McCallion is still running for office, but with the league looking for new opportunities, this may be an interesting one.
