A doctor claimed in a post on X that one of the Caroline Hurricanes' top defenseman, Brett Pesce, could be sidelines with an ACL injury.

In the second period of Monday night's game between the Hurricanes and the New York Islanders, Pesce had to return to the locker-room following an awkward leg move.

The Canes announced he wouldn't be back in the game:

"Brett Pesce will not return to tonight's game due to a lower-body injury."

Doctor Harjas Grewal, who often shares his analysis of injuries that occur in the NHL, posted a prognostic on X.

He believes that Pesce could have either torn his ACL, his MCL and/or his meniscus. He also stated it could be a bone bruise.

In addition, he had great news for Canes' fans: an ACL tear doesn't prevent players from skating. Joe Thornton played with a torn ACL in the playoffs.

Here's his full post:

"Concern is a torn ACL (see pics of ACL tear mechanism and position of Pesce)

Joe Thornton played on a torn ACL in the playoffs (as skating is not an ACL dependent task) but hard to expect that of everyone

Can have associated bone bruise, torn MCL and/or torn meniscus"

These pictures can help understand his prognostic.

The Hurricanes could lose a big piece of their defensive unit for the rest of the season, but we'll need an official statement from the team before we can confirm anything.

If he has a torn ACL, do you think Brett Pesce will remain in the lineup for the playoffs?
