Toronto Maple Leafs among five contenders to land UFA defenseman Sean Walker
The Colorado Avalanche made a trade for Sean Walker at the trade deadline to bolster their blueline and he now looks primed to receive a big payday in free agency.
The NHL is entering it's offseason and the market for defensemen is quite intriguing. Sean Walker ranks among the better UFA defensemen and could be a solid piece on any NHL blueline next year.
It looks like the Colorado Avalanche will not be able to retain his services so he will probably hit the open market where five teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, are in the hunt for the Ontario native.
"Walker, 29, will draw plenty of interest July 1, as teams like the Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks are just four other teams expected to pursue him, in addition to the Canes." - David Pagnotta
Walker, a stay-at-home defenseman, is projected to a contract worth three years at roughly in the $4-5 million range.
Only time will tell who is able to land his services but as it stands, there will likely be a bidding war for Sean Walker.
