Young hockey goaltender has passed away in the middle of a game
Another horrible story in the hockey world, as we have gotten word that a Dekhockey goalie by the name of Zachary Bourassa has sadly passed away at the age of 21.
Dekhockey is a ball hockey league based in Quebec, and this specific tournament was being held in Trois-Rivières, where Zachary's team was playing in the finals. He was incredibly passionate about Dekhockey, and it's during the finals that this tragic incident occurred.
According to Marco Normandin (HABSolumentFan), this is how the event transpired.
"According to our information, early in the game, the young goalie felt unwell and called for help before collapsing into the arms of one of the officials. According to information gathered from his family by Radio-Canada journalist Kassandra Lebel, he suffered cardiac arrest.
People quickly rushed to young Zachary's aid, and resuscitation efforts were made, but he sadly never woke up.
Special mention goes to two people on the scene, a nurse and a respiratory therapist, who took turns giving Zachary chest compressions before he tragically passed away.
This news is absolutely devastating, and people who witnessed the scene are absolutely shocked about what they saw.
"Sometimes, we hear stories where a death could have been avoided if certain actions had been taken earlier. This was the complete opposite. If he could have been saved, he would have been. The people present acted like true heroes."
- A direct witness of the scene
Someone else present at the scene of the incident pointed out that Zachary had shown no symptoms of anything the day of his death, making a sad story even more shocking.
Zachary had just turned 21 years old and had his whole life ahead of him, needless to say we are absolutely devastated for him and his family, and send them our deepest condolences.
